Rebuilding White Chest

This is a small white chest that we bought used locally for cheap with a few problems: The paint was chipping, one drawer glide was missing, one drawer slide was cracked in half but present, and there was a crack on the back/bottom support of it.

Upon acquiring:

Sanding down and filling cracks... Under the white paint was black paint, under that cream paint, and under that, the original brown. The last two people to paint it (white paint and black paint) globbed it on heavily, so there were a lot of really thick spots to grind down. You can also see to some extent how "chippy" the white paint was coming off in some sections.

Here's the dresser with clamps holding the freshly-repaired rear support that was snapped. It was a diagonal break so the new glue/clamping done here should be enough repair without further intervention.

You can see I did not take all of the old layers of paint off, but rather just removed where the paint was too thick, uneven, or dried out and chipping. This was done with a flat razor, putty knife, 60 grit sandpaper, and file.

Put on new brown paint (first coat).
